Pioneering Work for Global Tech I

It is a mammoth project: Global Tech I is one of the biggest commercial off-shore wind parks in the German section of the North Sea. Made up of 80 wind turbines, it supplies enough electricity for 445.000 homes in purely mathematical terms. To enable the power generated out at sea to make it back to the networks on the land, one thing is needed above everything else: a robust network of cables and sophisticated contact technology that can cope with the extreme conditions.

To connect the switching station to the transformers, PFISTERER developed a special heavy-duty HV-CONNEX solution for voltages up to 550 kV – the first off-shore cable system to be certified by Germanischen Lloyd. Around 5.800 meters of cables are connected to the CONNEX connectors; these were laid by 14 PFISTERER experts in Rotterdam dry dock in just 13 weeks. Complicated routing and a great deal of planning and organization made this an extremely demanding task. However, thanks to the easy-to-install, low-maintenance PLUG connections and PFISTERER’s expertise and precision, everything was still completed on schedule.
